When a Tribal Citizen is charged with an infraction in Oklahoma, they may not be under the City or County jurisdiction where they were arrested.  If they are, in fact, a Tribal Citizen, most of the time they will be under the Tribal Jurisdiction in which they find themselves.  By looking at the map on this page,  you can see the boundaries for each Sovereign Nation here in Oklahoma rather than County lines.  The County jails within that Tribal Jurisdiction are often contracted for room and board for Light Horse detainees, however, the detainee's profile is usually not visible on the jail website.

The map above illustrates the Tribal Nations general boundaries.  For those of us who grew up in Oklahoma, we learned our City and County lines, especially when we began to drive.  Those lines became relavent to school, work, voting and other things.  But not many of us paid attention to the Tribal Nation lines...it is a different map.  For anyone who is charged with a crime in Oklahoma, legal jurisdiction resides within the City and County you are in at the time of the incident.  If you are a registered Native American, jurisdiction may now be under the Tribal Nation  according the map above.  While the McGirt Ruling has answered the jurisdiction question for Native Americans in Oklahoma, or on Indian Territory, there are still some unfinished fine details in the legal procedure.  There are complicated jurisdictional issues that can arise between State, Tribal, and Federal.  You should consult an attorney to address those questions.  I have a link within each block below for each Tribe to help you find the court records and attorneys registered with the Tribes.
